Adilabad, the northern-most district of India’s recently-formed state of Telangana, has always been known for its poor socio-economic development and lack of basic eye health care facilities. Being at the receiving end for many unpredictable environmental factors such as severe drought and unseasonable rains and floods, the people of the district suffer throughout the year.
To address these issues, our partner L V Prasad Eye Institute established one of its secondary eye care centres, Bhosle Gopal Rao Patel Eye Centre, in the town of Adilabad.
Operation Eyesight is now working with the eye centre on a HBCEHP that reaches almost 50 villages and provides basic eye health care to almost 45,000 people. The goal of the program is to eliminate avoidable blindness by providing screenings to people at high risk of eye problems, and linking them to government facilities.
